10 7th and 8th grade St. James students travelled to Baldwin High School on Feb. 4th for the 89th annual PJAS regional competition. Presenting their research and experiments on scientific topics varying from wind turbines and water quality to the effectiveness of sunscreen, our students received a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place award for their work.
Congratulations to the following St. James students: 1st Place: Ashley E. – 7th grade, Grant G. – 8th Grade, and Mira M. – 8th Grade, 2nd Place: Adelaide D. – 7th Grade, Eva F. – 8th Grade, Molly G. – 7th Grade, Frankie I. – 8th Grade, Juliet P. – 8th Grade, and Carter W. – 8th Grade, and 3rd Place: Leo M. – 8th Grade. Two students received special awards for their projects: Adelaide D. received the Department of Environmental Protection Award for her project, “Does Mining Affect the Quality of Water?” and Grant G. received the Engineering Excellence Award from the University of Pittsburgh for his project, “What is the Most Effective Wind Turbine Design?” Congratulations to all!
